He was one of my wife's teachers.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14215430472162931248noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4157026828398818599.post-63749109951231595572013-08-06T06:24:43.201-07:002013-08-06T06:24:43.201-07:00Magic Holidays : Great article Thanks to shared wi...Magic Holidays : Great article Thanks to shared with us ! Not the most musically fulfilling thing, but I try to use this time of year to connect with audience and bring a little cheer to their seasons. It might be the 100th time I've played "Sleigh Ride," but you know what? it might be the only time all year the guy in the 8th row hears it. And so for him, I try to muster the enthusiasm I had the first time I played it.

Maybe because I play in a military band instead of a symphony, I constantly have this dialogue with myself. If I've played "American Soldier" March once, I've played it 100 times, but I can't let that malaise affect what I do. As you mentioned in your article: Try to find something musically fulfilling - how soft can I play this? Can I match articulations with so and so? And realize that sometimes it's not about you. :-)

Hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!
Derek BAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
